Local & Special Elections Update – February 3, 2015

Voting is today in runoffs for special elections in two Georgia State House Districts, HD #50 in Fulton County (near Atlanta) and HD #120, covering several counties in northeast Georgia.

Here are the results from the special election voting on January 6:

What is interesting about these races is that they are two totally different type of runoffs.  In HD #50, the top two candidates received a large majority of the votes in January, so this race will likely be decided by folks who didn’t vote in the first round.  However, in HD #120, the top two candidates barely totaled over 50% of the vote four weeks ago, so each will be looking to win over those who voted for a different candidate previously.  Fascinating stuff.

Also, voting is happening today for three seats on the Albuquerque, New Mexico, school board.  I wasn’t able to get detailed voting data for past elections, which kept me from doing a thorough analysis, but I have been following things there.   I am very interested in these results, particularly in District 2, where incumbent Kathy Korte is running for re-election.
