After Tuesday’s primaries in Alabama and Arkansas, there are three Republican contests in those states which will require a runoff:
ARKANSAS (March 22nd)
(There were only 3 state legislative primaries that had more than two candidates)
State Representative District #88 (Springdale/NW Arkansas) – Realtor Clint Penzo finished less than 40 votes ahead of Isaac Foley out of 4,000 votes cast in this three-candidate race. This is an open seat as incumbent State Rep. Lance Eads (R) is running for State Senate. Since no Democratic candidate filed to run in this Republican district, the winner of the runoff will be the new State Representative here.
ALABAMA (April 12th)
State Board of Education, District 1 (southwest Alabama) – Jackie Zeigler finished 1st in a 4-candidate field with 36%. Incumbent Matthew Brown (who had been appointed by the Governor last year) was 2nd with 27%.
State Board of Education, District 7 (northwest Alabama) – Jim Bonner finished 1st out of three candidates with 45%. Incumbent (and President Pro Tem) Jeff Newman was 2nd with 38%.
