There is a special Republican primary on Tuesday in Alabama State House District #79, in the eastern part of the state (Auburn). This election is to fill the vacancy caused by former State House Speaker Mike Hubbard’s (R) removal from office after his conviction on felony ethics violations in June. There are four Republican candidates, with no Democrat running. A primary runoff, if necessary, will take place on November 29th.
If money is the determining factor in state legislative special elections, than today’s race should be no contest:
I’ve written before on this site about how difficult it is to get greater than 50% of the vote in a four-candidate primary. I guess we’ll see if that is still applicable when one candidate out-raises and out-spends his opponents by a three-to-one margin.
